Guide for HOV Facilities
The HOV guide suggests methods and designs for dedicated facilities to encourage
greater use of existing transportation systems, such as increased use of
public transit (primarily buses), carpools, vanpools, or other ridesharing
modes to help attain the above goals. Guidance is given for planning and
design of preferential treatment for high-occupancy vehicles (HOVs).

This web site serves as a guide to the basics of value pricing and as a

projects. The site is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and

Operating Managed Lanes Projects
IH-10 and US
290, QuickRide - Houston, Texas
As part of FHWA’s Value Pricing Program, these facilities began pricing
for two-person HOVs. The program, known as QuickRide, is in operation only
during the peak hours when the HOV lane has a 3+ restriction. QuickRide
allows a limited number of travelers to register for the program.
I-15, FasTrak - San Diego, CA
The I-15 FasTrak program allows solo drivers to pay a toll to use the Express
Lanes on Interstate 15, normally reserved for vehicles with two or more
occupants.
I-394, MnPASS
- Minneapolis, MN
The I-394 MnPASS facility allows solo motorists who have a MnPASS account
and transponder to opt to pay a modest fee to use the MnPASS lanes and enjoy
"express" service between downtown Minneapolis and the western
suburbs.
